There is a wealth of new and upcoming creative talent in the Caribbean. One of the women at the forefront of this wave is is Ms. Ayana Harper.
A self described Euro-Trini, Ayana was born in France to Trinidadian parents. It was there that she discovered her passion for film and, after graduating from EICAR, the International Film School of Paris, became a film editor.
And now she’s part of the team behind the new animated series Big Man Dan.
Big Man Dan is an animated comedy web series, out of Trinidad and Tobago, following the hilarious antics of Dan, a man with a magnetic attraction to trouble and a talent for telling tall tales. Click here to catch a sneak peek of the series.
Each episode finds Dan at the mercy of his feisty girlfriend, Sheila, who demands an explanation for Dan’s latest misbehavior. Dan’s explanations take us into his larger than life imagination – a world where cockroaches know karate and girlfriends jump on rocket-ships when they “need space.”
Targeting young adults, the stories in the series start out as ordinary days in the life of a Caribbean man but veer into a fantasy world that breaks all the physical rules of reality. The team behind the project chose the medium of animation for its unlimited visual potential.
Inspired by record-breaking YouTube animated shorts collection, Simon’s Cat, the stylistic treatment of the Big Man Dan series is minimalistic with black and white animation.
Big Man Dan is a part of the Caribbean Tales Incubator, a year round development and production hub for Caribbean and Caribbean Diaspora producers and are competing RIGHT NOW to win Flow People’s Choice Award and they need your votes to make it happen.
